Dholera is moving closer to a major transformation in its regional and international connectivity. On 14 July 2026, Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu reviewed the progress of the upcoming Dholera International Airport and announced that approximately 80% of the overall construction work has been completed.

The passenger terminal is planned over approximately 25,000 square metres and is designed to handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually. A dedicated 2,500-square-metre cargo terminal is also being developed to support the industrial and logistics ecosystem expected around Dholera.

When Could Dholera International Airport Become Operational?

Following the July 2026 progress review, the Civil Aviation Ministry said contractors had been directed to target completion of on-site work by September 2026. At the same time, the ministry plans to work with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on the necessary airport licensing, with an objective of operationalising the airport around September or October 2026.

Therefore, the September–October timeframe should be understood as a government target, not a guaranteed opening date. Actual operations will depend on completion of the remaining work, regulatory requirements and required approvals.
